Isabela Island: Moreno Point & Fernandina Island: Mangle Point
AM: Moreno Point, Isabela Island
Moreno Point is situated on the northern coast of Isabela Island, nestled between the Sierra Negra and Cerro Azul volcanoes. The trail winds along a Pahoehoe lava flow, leading to a series of coastal lagoons. Here, you can spot various bird species around the lakes and mangroves.PM: Fernandina Island, Mangle Point
Located off the eastern coast of Fernandina, Mangle Point is an excellent snorkeling destination and a stunning spot for a panga or zodiac ride through the mangrove trees. A short hike of about half a mile is also available. During your ride, keep an eye out for sea lions, tortoises, pelicans, rays, and a plethora of other bird species.
-
Isabela Island: Urbina Bay & Tagus Cove
AM: Isabela Island, Urbina Bay
Urbina Bay is situated at the base of Alcedo Volcano on the west coast, nestled between Tagus Cove and Elizabeth Bay. This area experienced a significant uplift in 1954, raising the land by over 16 feet and extending the coastline half a mile, leaving marine life stranded on the new shore. It’s a fantastic spot for snorkeling. The trail begins with a wet landing and stretches approximately 3200 meters, featuring a mix of sand, pumice, lava, coral, and vegetation, where you can observe iguana burrows. Look out for red and blue lobsters, as well as Darwin’s finches. The main attraction here is the land iguanas, which are larger than those found on South Plaza Island. Wild tortoises can also be spotted, and a variety of vegetation thrives, including chamomile and Rosewood. Among them, the striking flowers of Darwin’s cotton, endemic to the Galapagos, stand out.
PM: Isabela Island, Tagus Cove
Tagus Cove lies west of Darwin Volcano on Isabela Island. This spot was once popular with pirates and whalers, who began the tradition of inscribing their boat names in a small cave at the trail's start, featuring inscriptions dating back to the 1800s. The cove is named after a British warship that passed through in 1814 searching for Galapagos Tortoises for food. The area is rich in volcanic rocks, including unique “lapilli” or petrified rain, shaped like small spheres, resulting from past eruptions.
-
Fernandina Island: Espinoza Point & Isabela Island: Vicente Roca Point
AM: Fernandina Island, Espinoza Point
Espinoza Point is renowned for its large colonies of marine iguanas and serves as a habitat for unique species such as the flightless cormorant, Galapagos penguin, Galapagos hawk, and Galapagos snake.
PM: Isabela Island, Vicente Roca Point
Vicente Roca Point is one of the most breathtaking locations in the Galapagos, featuring towering cliffs and stunning tuffstone, ash, and lava formations. Situated on the northwestern coast, this area includes two distinct islets and a vast bay rich in marine life. Here, you can spot seahorses, sea turtles, and the intriguing Mola-mola or sunfish. It’s an excellent spot for panga rides and snorkeling, where you may encounter penguins, blue-footed boobies, terns, and sea lions. Additionally, while snorkeling, keep an eye out for sea turtles, stingrays, and pufferfish.
-
Santiago Island: Espumilla Beach & Puerto Egas
AM: Santiago Island, Espumilla Beach
Espumilla Beach is situated on the northern coast of Santiago Island in James Bay. Following the last El Niño phenomenon, one of the lagoons here underwent sedimentation, leading to the loss of a notable flamingo colony. Key attractions include the palo santo forest and the nesting sites of baby turtles.
PM: Puerto Egas, Santiago Island
Puerto Egas features a striking black beach on the island's west side, formed by volcanic tuff deposits that create its unique sand. The area is named after a failed attempt to exploit salt, as the low prices on the mainland made it unfeasible to continue operations in the Galapagos. Consequently, the project and its infrastructure were abandoned, leaving an intriguing historical site.
-
Rabida Island & Chinese Hat
AM: Rabida Island
Rábida Island is distinguished by its striking red rocks and sand, a result of oxidizing volcanic materials influenced by rain, saltwater, and sea breezes. A short trail leads you to a coastal lagoon behind the beach, where you can observe various land birds, including finches, doves, yellow warblers, and mockingbirds. The lagoon is also home to a colony of flamingos.
PM: Chinese Hat (Sombrero Chino)
Chinese Hat is a small islet located just off the southeastern tip of Santiago Island, recognizable for its recent volcanic cone that resembles a Chinese hat from the north. To the west, you'll find lava formations that originated underwater and were uplifted, revealing coral heads atop the lava. This site is perfect for exploring geological features like lava tubes and flows, while the landscape is populated by sea lion colonies, marine iguanas, and Galapagos penguins.
-
Santa Cruz Island: Black Turtle Cove
AM: Black Turtle Cove, Santa Cruz Island. AM: Black Turtle Cove, Santa Cruz Island
A dinghy ride to Black Turtle Cove, located on the north coast of Santa Cruz just west of Baltra, reveals a serene hideaway in the Galapagos. Once inside the cove, the boat's engines are turned off to allow for a peaceful exploration of the mangrove-protected waters. Here, you can observe sea turtles feeding and mating, as well as three species of sharks: black-tip, white-tip, and Galapagos sharks. It’s also common to spot groups of spotted rays, along with egrets and herons.
PM: Flight back to the mainland
After your visit, you’ll be transferred to Baltra airport in time for your flight back to Quito International Airport.

Trip FAQs
-
There have been no significant events in Syria in years – and none targeting tourists. We have a great local crew and contacts to keep our journey as smooth as possible. Our top priority is to be safe and have the best experience. You will come to find out how hospitable and welcoming the local people are, and we are confident that you will feel comfortable! Ultimately, the decision to travel to Syria should be made after personal research and consideration of any perceived risks involved.
-
Safety is our priority, and we aim to ensure everyone is comfortable. We will be carefully observing the global environment, and if we need to postpone a tour, you can book a future tour. Please note that the decision to travel is your responsibility. We will do everything in our power to keep you safe or ensure a spot on a future trip – we can only offer a credit for a future trip worth the price paid for your original trip (excluding airfare/insurance).
If you’ve already paid for your tour in full:
If you’ve already paid for your trip in full, we will work with you and prioritize your spot for a future trip. We will provide you with a travel credit worth the price paid for your tour — excluding airfare and insurance — to put towards a future trip departing within the next 2 years. If the price for your tour destination increases, you won’t need to pay more than your original booking price. Please note that there is no guarantee that both Elona and Jerome will be on a future trip.
If you haven’t yet paid for your tour in full, but have made a deposit or some payments:
We will work together to rebook your trip, and we’ll put your deposit towards it. If you’d like to pay for your tour in full now, you can lock in the original price and not pay more should the tour price increase later.
Depending on availability, you can also use your deposit and/or payments towards any future tour, regardless of destination.
If you’re eager to travel in the future but aren’t quite sure about timing, we’ll automatically apply the full deposit amount to your account so it’s ready to go when you are. Those funds will not expire.
-
If you personally don’t feel comfortable traveling, but the tour isn’t canceled or postponed, we will do our best to move you to a future group. We do not guarantee a future group. We do not offer refunds after confirming your spot, but we will do our best to accommodate you for future travel when you feel comfortable. Please note that we reserve the right to retain 100% of the payment you made in connection with the booking at the time of cancellation.
-
We do not book your flights for you, but once you pay the initial deposit and confirm your spot, we will work with you to help you find the best flight times and connect you with other group members if they are flying from the same region. Please note that we do not offer any special rates for flights and can only offer you guidance.
For this trip, we recommend flying into Beirut, Lebanon. The group will meet there and drive to Damascus together. The drive time is about 3 hours and ensures a smooth border crossing. While there are some flights that go to Damascus, we do not recommend taking them.
-
Because we confirm our tours and hotels in advance, and only offer a small number of spots on the tours, we do require an upfront deposit to secure your spot, and it is non-refundable upon payment.
-
Our guide, Ahmad, will take care of the visa process; all you have to do is submit a photo of your passport. While visa-on-arrival is available for all nationalities, citizens from Thailand, Singapore, the USA, Taiwan, and African countries require special permission, which can extend the security clearance process to 5-6 weeks.
We will begin the visa process about 3 months before the travel date.
The specific costs for a Syria visa on arrival are as follows: 80 USD for European Union nationals, 220 USD for US citizens, around 20 USD for South American nations, 30 USD for China (75 USD for Hong Kong), 30 USD for Japan, 140 USD for the UK, 90 USD for Canada, free for Malaysia, 30 USD for Jamaica, 35 USD for Georgia, 60 USD for Mexico, and 35 USD for Thailand. Please note that these prices can change at any time, and we won’t know the exact rate until closer to the travel date. Visas have to be paid in USD cash at the border.
If you are arriving through Beirut (the preferred route), please ensure you are eligible for entry to Lebanon with your passport.
Syrian authorities strictly enforce regulations regarding travel history to Israel. Any indication of prior travel to Israel can result in denial of entry into Syria, even with a valid visa.
-
To pass through customs, you will need your passport, and visa approval form that we will provide. The driver will help ensure that the border crossing goes smoothly. Your passport’s expiration date must be at least six months after your return from your trip; if it is not, you should renew your passport. As always, check your country’s travel requirements when visiting a new country. Visas and other flight requirements are not included in the price, so please double-check that you have everything you need for travel before submitting the deposit.
